Mrs. Stock is a character in Enchanted Glass. She is the housekeeper at Melstone House, and has been ever since the current owner Andrew Brandon Hope was a young boy staying with his grandfather (and previous owner) Jocelyn Brandon. She is called "old bossyboots" by her counterpart, the gardener Mr. Stock (no relation), who doesn't like her and tries to make sure she is thwarted in every way he can manage to do so.

Mrs. Stock, like Mr. Stock, hates for things to change, plus she resents young Andrew because his mother, Jocelyn's daughter, went off and married a Hope and clearly must have died of it. When Andrew moves the furniture to more convenient places, she immediately and repeatedly starts to move it back the way it had been before. Mrs. Stock's phrases about Andrew become mottoes, and she repeats them every time she can. "World of his own!" is one of them. "Them professors!" is another -- even though Andrew had been an ordinary academic and not a professor at all. She particularly resents Andrew's installation of his computer, which she calls a "computall" and refuses on principle to dust.
However, to give her credit where it's due, when something outside Melstone House threatens Andrew or those he cares about, she is quick to move to his defense. For that, she wields a heavy iron ladle -- unclear whether the 'heavy' aspect is more dangerous or the 'iron' aspect.
