London as a place is a location in both the Magid series books, but in The Merlin Conspiracy, London is also an embodied spirit of place.  He communicates with other cities in his realm, works wonders with things like the roads and the telephone systems, and in the end helps our protagonists get to the right place to meet and join forces.  When they meet him, London appears as an enormous shiny pair of shoes blocking their vehicle in the outskirts of the city.  He himself is vast and shadowy, towering against the city sky, and his voice sounds like a strange mixture of traffic noises, different accents, and an undertone of hammers on a building site.

At first he bars their progress, but eventually lets them through, and heads off, wading through the houses off into the distance.
