Lenina begins the novel Cart and Cwidder in a rickety wooden caravan, traveling around Dalemark with her husband Clennen the Singer and their three children. Every few days they stop at a small town and put on a musical performance. It's a rough life, and particularly rough for Lenina, who was raised as the niece of an Earl, living in great comfort. At her betrothal feast she is swept away by Clennen and runs away with him, an action it appears she grows to regret somewhat.
